Frédéric Chopin
Frédéric Chopin was a Polish-French composer and virtuoso pianist whose entire output centers on the piano, refining the mazurka, nocturne, ballade, and prelude into vehicles for intimate, harmonically daring Romantic expression. Though he died at 39, his music became a foundational reference point for generations of pianist-composers who followed. His 24 Preludes, Op. 28, cycling through every key, became a direct model other composers returned to for a century.
