Salt-N-Pepa
Salt-N-Pepa — Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandra “Pepa” Denton, and DJ Spinderella — were a New York trio who became hip-hop's first commercially dominant all-female group. Their breakout single “Push It” (1987) turned playful, sexually confident rapping into mainstream pop crossover, opening the charts to the women who came after them.
