2 Live Crew
The Miami hip-hop group built around Luke Campbell turned the city's electro and bass-heavy party sound into a raunchy, radio-baiting style that came to define Miami bass in the mid-to-late 1980s. Their 1986 single 'Throw the D' and the records that followed became blueprint tracks that Rio DJs imported and adapted for early funk carioca. Their later obscenity trial only cemented their notoriety as an act built entirely around uninhibited party music.
