No Doubt formed in Anaheim, California, in 1986 out of the Southern California ska scene, eventually settling around vocalist Gwen Stefani, guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young. Their 1995 breakthrough Tragic Kingdom fused ska-punk energy with polished pop-rock songwriting and made Stefani one of the decade's defining frontwomen, balancing tough, guitar-driven hooks with unfiltered, diary-like lyrics.
