DJ Nelson

Nelson Díaz Martínez, born in 1972 in San Juan, cut his teeth as a DJ, producer, and arranger in The Noise, the early-1990s club collective that helped incubate reggaetón, before launching Flow Music and a run of solo compilations — "The Flow," "Mas Flow," "Flow la Discoteka" — that made him one of the genre's most influential executive producers. He shaped a run of reggaetón's biggest names across three decades, from Ivy Queen and Wisin & Yandel in the late '90s to Arcángel in the 2000s, and in 2019 executively produced "Platónico," the debut album of a then-unknown mentee named Jay Wheeler.

DJ Negro1990s · Hip hop / Reggaeton

DJ Negro founded The Noise in 1994, the club night and mixtape series where DJ Nelson earned his stripes as a DJ, producer, and arranger. The freestyle-over-riddim format Negro built there is the direct template for the compilation mixtapes — The Flow, Mas Flow — that made Nelson's own name.

listen forCompare the loose, chant-and-freestyle mixtape energy of the Noise-era "Voy a Implantar" to Nelson's own "Vengo Acabando" — both stack MCs trading verses over a single looped riddim rather than building toward a conventional verse-chorus song.

DJ Playero1990s · Reggaeton / Dancehall / Freestyle

DJ Playero's mixtape series — Playero 37 crowned a teenage Daddy Yankee's debut — established the format Nelson later scaled into a business: a DJ curating rotating rappers and singers over dancehall-descended riddims and releasing the result as his own compilation album.
