Banda El Recodo
Cruz Lizárraga formed Banda Sinaloense El Recodo in Mazatlán in 1938, naming it for his home village and building the horn-and-tuba banda sinaloense sound out of local brass-band and touring big-band traditions. Passed down through the Lizárraga family for generations, it remains one of regional Mexican music's most enduring institutions, giving countless young singers, Valentín Elizalde among them, their start on its stages.
