Wire arrived amid the first wave of British punk and immediately started dismantling its own rules, writing songs that were terse, angular, and often over before they'd properly begun. Pink Flag compressed punk's aggression into art-school minimalism, influencing post-punk, hardcore, and indie rock in roughly equal measure. Few debut albums have aged into more genres' foundational texts.
