Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1993 and raised in the Los Angeles area, where she trained as a dancer from early childhood and spent her teens in the girl group The Stunners before going solo. Teaching herself production, she self-released the atmospheric mixtapes 'In Case We Die,' 'Reverie,' and 'Black Water' that positioned her at the front of the early-2010s alternative-R&B wave, then broke through in 2014 with the trap-inflected hit '2 On' and the album 'Aquarius.'
