The Hollies

Formed in Manchester in 1962 around the tight vocal blend of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash, and Tony Hicks, the Hollies rode the British Invasion on a run of bright, close-harmony pop singles like 'Bus Stop' and 'Carrie Anne.' Their jangling twelve-string guitars and effortlessly catchy melodies made them one of the era's most reliable UK hitmakers, even as Nash's later departure to form Crosby, Stills & Nash overshadowed the band's own considerable run of hits. They remained a touring and recording act for decades afterward, built around the same knack for irresistible pop hooks.
