Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer

Semmangudi Radhakrishna Srinivasa Iyer was a Carnatic vocalist regarded, alongside contemporaries G.N. Balasubramaniam and Madurai Mani Iyer, as one of the 20th century's defining 'trinity' of male Carnatic singers. Trained through a chain of gurus including Thiruvadaimaruthur Sakharama Rao and Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer, he became the youngest-ever recipient of the Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1947 and, for decades afterward, one of the tradition's most sought-after teachers - among his students was M.S. Subbulakshmi.
