Assembled from a rotating pool of Philadelphia's finest studio players, the Salsoul Orchestra took the lush, string-swept 'Philly sound' and pushed it further into pure disco extravagance. Under arranger Vincent Montana Jr., they turned session musicianship into its own kind of stardom, cutting instrumental disco records built for maximum dance-floor sweep. Their orchestral grandeur became a secret ingredient in the DNA of house music that followed.
