MFSB
MFSB was less a band than an institution — a rotating pool of more than thirty Philadelphia session musicians who, under producers Gamble and Huff, built the lush, string-drenched 'Sound of Philadelphia' behind hit after hit. Their own instrumental single became the Soul Train theme and the first TV theme to top the Billboard Hot 100, a quiet monument to studio craftsmanship. Disco as a genre owes an enormous, often uncredited debt to this collective.
