Ranking Joe

Joseph Jackson, better known as Ranking Joe, emerged from Kingston's sound system culture in the mid-1970s with a melodic, rapid-fire toasting style. His 1978 album 'Weakheart Fadeaway' became a major seller for Greensleeves Records and helped define the transition from roots-reggae deejaying into the rougher, rhythmically insistent style that would come to define dancehall.
