Milt Jackson
Nicknamed "Bags," vibraphonist Milt Jackson brought a cool, blues-soaked swing to bebop and hard bop, most famously as the featured soloist of the Modern Jazz Quartet. His composition "Bags' Groove" became a jazz standard, showcasing the relaxed, deeply swinging vibraphone style that distinguished him from the more percussive attack of predecessors like Lionel Hampton. Jackson's lyrical, blues-drenched sound was a direct model for the next generation of vibraphonists, including Roy Ayers.
