K. C. Dey
Krishna Chandra Dey, blind from his teens, was a classically trained singer and actor at New Theatres in the 1930s and an important early exponent of devotional song and bhajan in Indian cinema. Uncle and first teacher of Manna Dey, he brought a rigorous Hindustani-classical foundation to film music in its formative years. His grave, raga-rooted singing was a formative presence in the Calcutta studio world from which later playback grew.
