Blas Durán (1941-2023) was a veteran of Dominican guitar music who, in 1986, recorded "Consejo a las Mujeres," widely credited as the first bachata built on an amplified electric guitar. That plugged-in, danceable sound was quickly copied by a rising generation of bachateros and became a defining feature of the modern genre. Known for playful, risqué lyrics, he is often called a father of modern bachata.
