Barkat Ali Khan

Ustad Barkat Ali Khan was a Pakistani classical vocalist of the Kasur-Patiala gharana, younger brother of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, who built a parallel reputation as one of his era's great thumri and ghazal specialists even as his brother became the more famous name. Trained first by his father and then refined under his brother's guidance, he helped shape mid-century Pakistani ghazal singing before his death in 1963 — and personally coached a young Ghulam Ali, carrying the lineage forward.

Barkat Ali Khan was trained first by his father and then, as he grew older, by his elder brother Bade Ghulam Ali Khan directly — the family's Patiala khayal foundation is audible under even his lightest ghazals.
