Zutty Singleton
Arthur "Zutty" Singleton grew up in New Orleans and was already working professionally by 1915, following the city's jazz diaspora north through St. Louis and Chicago. He played drums on Louis Armstrong's celebrated late-1920s Savoy Ballroom Five sides and worked alongside Jelly Roll Morton and Sidney Bechet, bringing an easy, propulsive New Orleans swing to some of the most important early recordings in jazz.
