The Ventures

The Ventures are an American instrumental rock band from Tacoma, Washington, whose twangy, reverb-heavy guitar sound on hits like "Walk, Don't Run" helped define the surf-rock instrumental era of the early 1960s. They toured Japan relentlessly and sold enormously there, effectively teaching a generation of Japanese guitarists — including future city-pop and studio musicians — how an electric guitar could carry a pop song without a singer.
