The Sonics

Tacoma's Sonics played garage rock like they were trying to break their own equipment, screaming through overdriven amps and pounding pianos with a violence that punk would later claim as its birthright. "The Witch" and "Psycho" sound feral even six decades on. Critics now routinely call them a missing link between fifties rock and roll and punk.
