The Jimmy Castor Bunch

Saxophonist and one-time doo-wop singer Jimmy Castor spent the early '70s leading a hard-driving funk outfit whose 1972 single "It's Just Begun" packed a horn-blaring breakdown that became one of the most reliably looped drum breaks of the early Bronx sound-system era. The record — and its flip side, the novelty hit "Troglodyte" — gave party DJs exactly the kind of extended, dancer-baiting percussion section the whole early hip-hop culture was built around.
