Sinawe

Formed in 1986 by guitarist Shin Dae-chul — son of Shin Jung-hyeon, often called the godfather of Korean rock — Sinawe became South Korea's first true heavy metal band, translating the amp-worship of Western hard rock into a domestic pop scene that had never heard anything like it. The band's revolving lineup doubled as a finishing school for Korean rock talent: a teenage Seo Taiji played bass on 1990's 'Four' before leaving in 1991 to form Seo Taiji and Boys. Sinawe has continued through repeated lineup changes and reunions, remaining a touchstone for Korean rock and metal long after its most famous alumnus left for pop stardom.
