Scrapper Blackwell

Scrapper Blackwell's crisp, needling guitar lines gave pianist Leroy Carr's smoky vocals somewhere to lean, and together the duo more or less invented the urban, piano-and-guitar blues sound of the late 1920s — quietly influential, endlessly covered, and never quite as famous as the records he helped make essential.
