S.D. Burman
Sachin Dev Burman (1906–1975), born into the royal family of Tripura, trained in Bengali folk song and light Hindustani classical music under teachers including K.C. Dey before becoming one of Hindi cinema's foundational composers. Across films like Pyaasa and Guide he married folk directness to sophisticated film orchestration, and his sensibility passed directly to his son R.D. Burman.
