Rosemary Clooney

Born in Maysville, Kentucky in 1928, Rosemary Clooney sang with the Tony Pastor big band before her novelty hit 'Come On-a My House' made her a solo star in 1951, and she spent the decade as one of the defining voices of uptown pop, prized for warm phrasing and impeccable diction on ballads and swing tunes alike. A career slump and personal struggles in the 1960s and '70s gave way to a critically acclaimed late-career run as a jazz-inflected song stylist. She remained a benchmark for vocal clarity and interpretive taste until her death in 2002.
