Ohio Players
Dayton, Ohio's Ohio Players spent the 1970s turning gritty, groove-heavy funk into pop crossovers, topping the charts with "Fire" and "Love Rollercoaster" and pairing their music with famously provocative album art. Their tight, horn-and-bass-driven arrangements became a bedrock sample source for the generation of DJs and producers who built house and hip-hop out of 1970s funk records.
