Nisar Hussain Khan
Ustad Nisar Hussain Khan (1906–1993) was a Rampur-Sahaswan gharana khyal vocalist and tarana specialist, appointed court musician to Baroda's Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III at just eighteen and later a fixture of India's concert circuit and All India Radio; he received the Padma Bhushan in 1971. Trained by his father, Fida Hussain Khan, he in turn taught his cousin Ghulam Mustafa Khan and the celebrated Rashid Khan.
His father and only teacher — Nisar inherited the family's khyal style and Baroda court connections directly from him before developing his own tarana specialism.
listen forNo recording of Fida Hussain Khan survives; listen for the same throaty power and bol-taan attack, channeled into tarana syllables, on Nisar Hussain Khan's own "Raag Darbari Tarana."
