Neru is a Japanese Vocaloid producer who has been uploading aggressive, guitar-driven rock songs to Niconico and YouTube — sung by Kagamine Rin and Len rather than a human vocalist — since his 2009 debut. His breakout hits "Lost One's Weeping" (2011) and "Jailbreak" (2016) helped define a harder-edged, punk- and metal-inflected corner of the Vocaloid scene, distinct from the software's cuter mainstream image. It was "Jailbreak," encountered through a fan cover, that pulled a then-unknown Ayase into Vocaloid production in the first place.
