Born in 1939 in Kup Kalan, Punjab, Mohammad Sadiq became one of Punjabi music's defining duet voices, recording with Ranjit Kaur for roughly 40 years and, before that, with Surinder Kaur on an early breakout single. Later a Punjabi film actor and Indian MP, he remains active into his eighties, performing alongside Diljit Dosanjh at a 2024 concert. Amar Singh Chamkila performed alongside Sadiq early in his career, part of the touring folk-duet scene that shaped Chamkila's own act.
