Miguel y Miguel

José Miguel Montoya and Miguel Ángel Angulo formed the vocal duo Miguel y Miguel in Sinaloa in 1990, pairing close harmonies with two acoustic guitars — one a twelve-string docerola — instead of the accordion that dominated norteño at the time. Hits like 'Sonora y Sus Ojos Negros' and 'El Rey de Corazones' established the guitar-driven sierreño sound that a later generation of Sinaloan artists, Ariel Camacho among them, would build careers on.
