Manolo de Huelva

Manuel Gómez Vélez, known as Manolo de Huelva, was a Spanish flamenco guitarist celebrated among aficionados as the preferred accompanist of Manuel Torre, Antonio Chacón, La Niña de los Peines, and Tomás Pavón, prized for playing that was simple, deeply traditional, and intensely expressive. He guarded his art closely and rarely permitted commercial recordings during his lifetime, so most of what survives comes from private transcriptions made late in his life by musicologist Virginia de Zayas.
