Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, who performs as K1 De Ultimate, joined Ayinde Barrister's Supreme Fuji Commanders as a teenager in the mid-1970s before going solo, releasing his debut album Iba around 1979-80 and breaking out nationally with the fast-paced 'Talazo' style of his 1984 album Talazo '84. Crowned King of Fuji at a 1993 NTA Ibadan ceremony, he's since become one of the genre's most sampled figures, with recordings like his 'Orin Abode Mecca Medley' surfacing decades later in the work of Lagos rap and street-pop artists.
