Juan Breva
Antonio Ortega Escalona, known as Juan Breva, was the most celebrated 19th-century cantaor from Málaga, credited as a foundational figure in codifying the malagueña and verdial song forms. He made a rare set of recordings in 1910, in his late sixties and nearly blind, which remain the only direct audio document of a singer widely cited — alongside Silverio Franconetti and Enrique el Mellizo — as one of Antonio Chacón's principal influences.
