Exile One
Exile One formed in the early 1970s when Dominican singer-songwriter Gordon Henderson relocated to Guadeloupe and assembled a band of fellow Dominicans to fuse cadence rampa, calypso, and jazz-and-blues horns into cadence-lypso. Becoming the first Creole act to sign to a major French label in 1975, they carried the genre across the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa and are widely credited with opening the commercial and stylistic path zouk bands like Kassav' later expanded.
