DJ Spanish Fly

Born Antonio D. Kimbrough in Memphis in 1970, DJ Spanish Fly DJ'd and sold self-produced mixtapes out of Club No Name and Club Expo in the late 1980s and early '90s, taking over the turntables from Soni D and building a bass-heavy, 808-driven sound out of 1980s electro-funk. Widely called the 'Godfather of Memphis Rap,' his cassettes were dubbed and traded hand-to-hand across the South, laying the groundwork for the Memphis rap scene that produced Three 6 Mafia and 8Ball & MJG.
