Deenanath Mangeshkar
Master Deenanath Mangeshkar was a celebrated Marathi stage actor, Natya Sangeet singer and Hindustani classical vocalist of the 1920s and 1930s, known for a powerful voice and inventive, raga-based phrasing in the musical theatre of western India. He was the father and first teacher of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, among other musical children. His early death in 1942 pushed his teenage daughters into the film-music profession they would go on to dominate.
