The Atlanta group of Fabo, Mook-B, Stoney, and Shawty Lo turned "Laffy Taffy" into a surprise Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 in January 2006, riding the same bare, chant-driven snap-music sound that was reshaping Southern hip hop's mainstream at the time. The group largely disbanded not long after, but the record's influence on minimal, hook-first Southern rap outlasted them.
