Burning Spear

Winston Rodney, performing as Burning Spear, emerged from Studio One in the late 1960s to become one of roots reggae's most singular voices, using deep, chant-like vocals to explore Rastafari faith and the legacy of Pan-Africanist leader Marcus Garvey. His 1975 album Marcus Garvey is regarded as a foundational text of conscious roots reggae. He has remained one of the genre's most enduring elder statesmen.
