Blind Joe Taggart

Blind Joe Taggart was a South Carolina-born gospel-blues singer and guitarist, one of the first 'guitar evangelists' to record commercially, cutting devotional sides for Vocalion beginning in 1926 alongside secular recordings issued under a string of pseudonyms. He toured the segregated South with a series of hired 'lead boys' — including a teenaged Josh White — passing his repertoire and playing style on directly before fading from the record catalogs after 1934.
