Atari Teenage Riot

Atari Teenage Riot formed in Berlin in 1992, fusing breakbeat hardcore, punk, and confrontational political sloganeering into the abrasive, distortion-heavy sound they termed digital hardcore. Alec Empire, Hanin Elias, and Carl Crack built tracks like 'Sick to Death' around gabber-speed beats and screamed vocals, rejecting techno's dancefloor politeness outright. Their extremity became a direct reference point for later distorted, maximalist strains of electronic music.
