Arthur Mafokate

Arthur Mafokate released his debut album Windy Windy in 1994 and became known as the "King of Kwaito" for a run of hits — including the apartheid-baiting "Kaffir" and the SAMA-winning "Oyi Oyi" — that turned kwaito's slowed-down, localized house beats and township-slang lyrics into South Africa's dominant youth sound of the 1990s. He also introduced dance crazes like twalatsa and qopetsa that spread alongside the music.
