9ice
Abolore Adegbola Akande, known as 9ice, grew up in the Shomolu-Bariga area of Lagos and broke through nationally with 2008's Gongo Aso, an album that fused fuji's talking-drum swing and proverbial Yoruba lyricism with hip-hop production. The title track made him one of Nigeria's biggest stars and helped establish a fuji-hip-hop fusion that later street-pop artists, including Olamide and Asake, built further on.
