2NE1 formed at YG Entertainment in 2009, pairing CL, Park Bom, Sandara Park, and Minzy for a girl-group sound built on hip-hop bombast rather than the softer idol norms of the era. Debut singles 'Fire' and 'I Don't Care' set a brash, genre-scrambling template — part electropop, part reggae, part rap-driven attitude — that crested with 2011's 'I Am the Best,' an anthem of unapologetic swagger that became their signature. 2014's 'Crush' was, at the time, the highest-charting Korean album in US Billboard 200 history. Minzy's 2016 departure led YG to disband the group, and the remaining three closed the chapter with 2017's 'Goodbye' before a partial reunion in 2022. Critics and later K-pop acts alike credit 2NE1 with pioneering K-pop's 'girl-crush' concept.
